Drake finished 5th in Max Balchowsky's homebuilt racer in the "L.A. Times Grand Prix" at Riverside on Oct. 15, 1961.  He was three laps behind the leading pair of Coopers driven by Sir Jack Brabham and Bruce McLaren.
