More Yggdrasil

The Yggdrasil installation wasn't easy.  But imagine how hard it would have been without the helicopter.  Amazingly, the original plan was to winch the two elements of the sculpture 200 yds+ down the too-steep-to-walk hillside.  This through heavy chaparral.

The skycrane lifts the "tree" from a staging area alongside Big Sur's famous Highway 1.

Not far below "as the crow flies" is the rocky cliffside crag where the crew awaits this sculpture element.

The tree in place, the skycrane returns for the "world".

This much heavier element was near the helicopter's load limit.

The real work begins now.  The "world" proved difficult to position properly.  The ropes allowed crew members some control.

Think about adjusting a heavy hunk of marble in increments of inches while it's hanging from a struggling helicopter.
