More Historic Racing -- 1

This new section will feature photos from Laguna Seca, Sears Point, and Willow Springs taken in the 1980s-90s.  I've got a lot of them.

Jeff Walter leads Mac Archer and two other 427 Cobras around Turn 2 at Laguna Seca in 1997

We're looking at a cumulative 1600-2000 HP here.

Don Orosco in his Scarab.  This is the car Lance Reventlow reserved for his personal street use.

Compare the bodywork on this car to Harry Heuer's car in 1961.  The Meister Brauser Scarabs were frequently dented front and rear and became shorter with each repair, eventually losing a foot in overall length.

Rob Walton now owns and races this car.

Peter Shea in Ol' Yaller IX.  It was previously vintage raced by Ted PetersonMax Balchowsky's last major effort, Ol' Yaller IX  appeared for the 1963 Riverside Grand Prix with 427 Ford power and Bill Krause driving.  The engine blew up in practice.

(I saw this happen.  Krause crested the hill before Turn 7 and there was a puff of smoke from the engine and he coasted to a stop.  I've never heard what caused the engine to fail.)

In 1964 the car reappeared at local events in SoCal,  but by then the day of the front- engined sports racer was over.
