| (7-22-09) From author and historian Michael
T. Lynch:
"Car is 004, sold to Frank Arciero, not Parravano, by Pino Lella,
although both Arciero and Parravano were at one time cement contractors.
This car presents an interesting mystery. Before the sale, Lella
entered the car at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. During the
race he unwittingly missed a turn and kept racing into a neighborhood adjoining
the park before he realized his mistake. He was escorted back onto the
course by an SF police motorcycle patrolman. At that race the car
was entered as a 195 (2.3 liter). By the time it went to Arciero,
it was entered as a 166 (2.0 liter). The question is, was the engine
swapped along the way, or was Lella not representing the car correctly.
Considering its age, Arciero always presented the car in immaculate condition."
(8-4-09) From Andy Dziedzic:
"In 1956 Bob Drake drove Frank Arciero's 166 Barchetta in at least
6 events but he used #149 only at the Fiesta Del Pacifico Road Races at
San Diego on July 21/22. He finished 7th OA/1st EM at the 10-lapper prelim
on Saturday and 9th OA/1.EM in the main event on Sunday." |
