John von Neumann --  Ferrari 750 Monza

The historians weighed in within the hour after I posted these first four photos.    Most of my questions regarding this photo were answered right away.

Can anyone ID the venue and date?  If you'd like to contribute to this page:  Please email me!

(7-18-09)   From Charlie Vehle:

"The Ferrari Monza with the number 211 is John von Neumann  driving. Looks like Torrey Pines."

(7-18-09)   From Michael Jacobsen:

"The first six pix are all at the SCCA Torrey Pines, 1955, #211 is Von Neumann in his Monza (which he later handed over to Phil Hill), finished second to Shelby."

(7-21-09)   From author Tony Adriaensens:

"Taken at Torrey Pines, July 9/10 - 1955.  John von Neumann drove this Ferrari up to half way point during Sunday main and handed the car over the Phil Hill.  Hill was standing around the von Neumann pit as all races in Europe were cancelled after the LeMans disaster.  Shelby won the race in the same Ferrari that Hill had used to finish second in the 1954 Carrera Mexico -- here at Torrey, Hill finished in second place."
