Derek Bell -- '65 Cobra Daytona Coupe & Mac
Archer -- '65 427 Cobra
On the last lap Mac catches
Bell. For a brief, very dramatic, moment the cars were side-by-side,
then Bell squirted down the corkscrew ahead.
I thought Bell had second
place secured (Walton was way ahead in his yellow Ferrari 250LM),
but Mac stayed close to the blue coupe on the downhill side of the course,
then pulled up even braking for Turn 11. The two cars
slid around the corner, then powered up the last straight.
Mac's 7000cc's of big block Ford power were just enough to nose the red
car past the blue car at the finish line. |
