SUNSET CANTINA

Original Screenplay by Tam McPartland

It's December, 1980:  Party guy Jeff Cleary wakes up hungover with the police at his door.  Did he kill his musician friend Doug Kelsey?  Jeff doesn’t remember.  Did they fight over beautiful but cocaine addicted Katie Reynolds?

Newly sober, Jeff sets out to learn who really killed Doug.  But his world has turned upside down.  He’s accused of murder; Ronald Reagan’s the new president; John Lennon’s just been assassinated; the girl he loves hates him, and all his friends are doing coke like crazy.

But it’s really about the music at a rambunctious honky-tonk called “Sunset Cantina”.  From the quintessential 1970s “California Rock” of Doug Kelsey’s  “OUTRIDERS” to the dark and deep alienation of “KILL HAPPY”, the punk inspired group that takes over the gig after Doug’s death — the “SUNSET CANTINA” soundtrack is a non-stop feast of sonic thunder.
