wasn't yet a racing mega-mogul in 1961.  But he was an excellent driver and his beautifully prepared cars were always a threat for an overall win.
 

Penske in the tail-finned "Telar Special" Cooper Monaco on his way to a 4th place finish in the "Times Grand Prix", held at Riverside on Oct. 14-15 1961. He won the race the next year in his controversial single-seat Zerex Special.

Penske in a Cooper Formula Junior at Laguna Seca, Oct. 21-22, 1961. He lost to Ed Leslie's Gemini.
