From Peter McKercher:  "1st L.A. - Long Beach Sports Car Races at Terminal Island 1953 -- the first road race within the city limits of Los Angeles.  Lammy Lamoreaux (former World Speedway champion) is driving Singer #80

Can anyone ID the other cars and drivers or offer more info on this little-known event?    Please email me!

(10-19-08)  From Peter McKercher:

"The race seems to be long forgotten, but it attracted all the budding stars and wannabees of the day.  Entrants included Ken Miles, Phil Hill, George Beavis, Henry Manney, Bruce Kessler, Duffy Livingston, Cy Yedor, Bumpy Bell and many more."

(10-23-08)  From Michael Jacobsen:

"The Terminal Island photo includes a rare shot of the second Barlow Simca when owned by Tom Chatfield and carrying a sleeved and blown XPAG -- perhaps it was the engine Miles built for R1 before he got the factory job."
