Ronnie Bucknum in Ol' Yaller IX

Ol Yaller IX was the last of Max Balchowsky's creations to be campaigned extensively in west coast racing.  It first appeared for the 1963 "L.A. Times Grand Prix" at Riverside on October 11-12-13, 1963 with Bill Krause driving and Ford 427 power.  I watched the big engine blow approaching Turn 7.

For the 1964 season Ol' Yaller veteran Ronnie Bucknum took over the car.  He won at Riverside in February, 1964 before heading for Japan and his famous stint with the Honda F1 team.

Another look at Bucknum in Ol' Yaller IX at Riverside in 1964.
