Whitten rounds Turn 5.  Aston Martin developed the big-engined DBR2 to compete with the Maserati 450S and the 335-S Ferrari.  When the FIA limited World Sports Car Championship cars to 3 liters for the 1958 season, Aston Martin moved its development effort to the DBR1.
