John von Neumann -- Glöckler Porsche
/ Dr. Grale Preson -- MG
Also from Moffett Field in August, 1953. Armstrong's car is
listed as a Porsche, but looks like a Denzel
(Glöckler?) to your webmaster. Neither of these drivers appear
in the entry lists for the Pebble Beach sports car races, April 18-19,
1953 or the Golden Gate Park races, held on May 16-17, 1953.
| (1-8-08) Historian Ron Cummings suggests the car #112 might
be a "Glöckler
Porsche". Does anyone know more about Armstrong and this car?
(1-9-08) From author/historian Michael T. Lynch: "I think
the picture of Armstrong in #112 at Moffett Field in 1953 is actually John
von Neumann in practice in Ed Trego's Glöckler Porsche. The
reason I say practice is that I think he may have run #11 in the race itself."
(6-25-08) From Don Blumenfeld: It's probably a Glöckler--the
BMW style pin drive wheels are interesting. It's not a rear-engined
Denzel for sure." |
